Annual physical examinations provide for early detection and treatment
of problems. The importance of the annual exam is stressed at Riverbrook
because a lot transpires in the life of an animal over the course of a
year. To put it in perspective, the annual examination for your pet is
like a physical every seven years for you, so a great deal needs to be
addressed during the exam. Vaccinations, parasite detection and dispensing
of preventative medications are handled at each annual visit. In order
to focus on the problems of our senior companions, geriatric exams are
scheduled as needed. These exams may include diagnostic procedures such
as ECGs, lab work and x-rays.

Dental care is very important for your pet. If unmanaged, dental problems
can lead to bad breath, mouth pain, and loss of teeth. Ultimately, chronic
dental disease can result in heart and kidney disease. At Riverbrook Animal
Hospital, we offer dental prophylaxis including cleaning, polishing. Any
specialty procedures are referred to local, board-certified dentists.

Baths, dips, and nail trims are available daily. We also provide medicated
baths for dogs and cats with special skin disorders.

Surgery is performed in-house Monday through Friday. A wide variety of
surgeries are performed using high quality anesthetics such as Isoflorane
gas. We refer surgical procedures requiring special equipment or training
to local, board-certified veterinary surgeons. We offer pre-anesthetic
exams and bloodwork for all patients.

Since Riverbrook Animal Hospital focuses on preventative/wellness care
and on medical care, our limited hospital space prevents us, in most instances,
from overnight boarding of non-medical cases.
- Day boarding of animals is available.
- Non-medical overnight boarding of cats is available as space allows.
- Boarding of pets that need medication (diabetic animals, for example)
or requests for pets to board before or after a surgical procedure will
be allowed on a case by case basis.
- Proof of current vaccinations is required for all boarders to prevent
the spread of infectious diseases.
- Dogs are required to be current on Rabies and Distemper-Parvo vaccinations.
- Cats are required to be current on Rabies and Distemper/Upper Respiratory
Virus vaccinations.
Riverbrook staff will discuss your needs for overnight boarding
of your pet(s) and can refer you to qualified in-home pet sitters or boarding
facilities.
Kennel cough (bordetella) vaccine may be required
for boarding elsewhere. It works best when done at least 5-7 days before
boarding. Call ahead to the boarding facility and check to see if your
pet will require a vaccination. If so, we can schedule a convenient time
to give the vaccination before boarding begins.

Dr. Johnson welcomes the opportunity she has to inform and instruct pet
owners on the latest developments in behavior modification and training.
She encourages anyone particularly new pet owners to come
to her with questions or concerns.
